Image Guided Radiation Therapy

Physics and technology
B Paul Ravindran

Radiotherapy is one of the three main methods of treating cancer and more than 50% of cancer patients receive radiation during the course of their treatment. Precise targeting with imaging enables increase in therapeutic dose, reduction in normal tissue dose and thus increases the therapeutic ratio. There are several technologies and techniques used in image guidance and this book deals with the Physics principles and the technology of the commonly used image guidance systems.

This book will discuss the image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), its physics principles and technology used. The book will cover from historical perspective to the very recent Magnetic Resonance Image (MR) guided radiotherapy.
