Exploring lead-free ferroelectrics

This book aims to provide an overview of a new class of lead-free ferroelectric materials, namely Bismuth layer structured ferroelectrics (BLSF). The emphasis will be laid on its unique properties owing to the layered structure and their potential applications in ferroelectric RAM, capacitors, sensors, transducers, actuators and other electronic devices. Classification of family of bismuth layer structured oxides based on the number of perovskite layers present in the compound will be presented in this book. The relationship between the structure and properties of this family of compounds will be analyzed in accordance with their classification. Frequency and temperature dependent properties (electrical, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric) of these compounds as a function of the number of layers will be discussed. A cohesive picture on the electrical, ferroelectric and dielectric properties of BLSF based on different synthesis routes adopted for their preparation will be presented. In addition, modification of the properties of these compounds due to substitution of cations by isovalent and hetrovalent ions will be comprehended.
This book will provide an insight into the possibilities of new lead-free ferroelectric materials with a scope to further promote research in this area of environment friendly compounds.
